The central theme of the scientific program of the 18th IAPESGW World Congress focuses on “Women and Girls in Sport: Research to Action”.
There are 4 Sub-Themes:
- Pedagogy of Physical Education, Sport, and Dance
- Lifelong Physical Activity for All
- Global to Local Initiatives and Assessment
- Sport Sciences
The scientific program runs from 18 – 21 May 2017.
The scientific program represents a blend of:
- Invited keynote speakers,
- Invited speakers
- Invited symposia,
- Proposed symposia/seminars/workshops/dance demonstrations
- Oral presentations
- Poster presentations
- Young researchers
The Abstract Submission Timeline is as follows:
- Second call for abstracts; 1 August 2016
- Deadline for abstract submission: 30 November 2016
- Notification of acceptance: 15 December 2016
- Early Bird registration: 20 January 2017
- Delegates are invited to submit an abstract for either an oral and/or poster presentation under one of the sub-themes from 1 July 2016.
- Your abstract must reach the Scientific Committee on or before 30 October 2016.
- The preferred option is to submit your abstract via www.barry.edu/iapesgw where you will be guided through the online submission process.
- If you are unable to make an online submission, please contact the Organising Committee for further information at iapesgw@barry.edu
- Abstracts will be limited to 250 words submitted in MS Word format
- All abstracts will be go through a blind review process by at least two international experts on the Scientific Committee.
- Submitting authors will be informed whether their abstract has been accepted after 15 December 2016.

General information about the World Congress:
The purpose of the 18th World Congress is to bring together women and men, scholars and field-based practitioners, from many countries, who are working to improve the position of girls and women in the fields of physical education, sport, dance, physical activity, and research. The World Congress provides an international exchange of knowledge, opportunity for listening, sharing, networking, discussing and creating new possibilities for the benefit of girls and women. It will also provide a forum to make sport “glocal” (global and local) through international relationship building.
Details of the Congress:
Who: The International Association of Physical Education and Sport for Girls and Women (IAPESGW) was founded in 1949 and now has members in every continent of the world, reaching over 40 countries, and is the oldest international organization for girls and women in sport. It is comprised of a network of practitioners, researchers and policy makers sharing in promoting life-enhancing opportunities for girls and women in physical education and sport.
What: The 18th World Congress will bring together like-minded professionals from around the world who are working to improve the position of girls and women in the fields of physical education, dance, sport, and research.
Where: Barry University’s School of Human Performance and Leisure Sciences has been selected as the host site for the 2017 International Association of Physical Education and Sport for Girls and Women (IAPESGW) 18th World Congress.
When: May 17-21, 2017
Why: The International Association of Physical Education and Sport for Girls and Women (IAPESGW) believes that all girls and women should have access and opportunity to develop and sustain their full potential. Additionally, IAPESGW stands as a network of voices of, and for, the support of girls and women, improving their position at local, national and global levels.
